The Horne Lake Outdoor Centre provides positive and rewarding adventure experiences for a wide variety of groups in a spectacular setting. Participants learn to build trust by focusing on safety, teamwork, and cooperation. Healthy interaction promotes respect for self, others and the environment.

Trips can be as short as a few hours or extended by adding more activities. If you have the luxury of staying overnight, you can create life-long memories and deeper personal connections by sharing meals and a campfire after a full day of adventure! Bring your own tents or enjoy the convenience of the large wall-tents and full meal options available to your group.

Group Tenting

(Horne Lake Regional Park)

Horne Lake Regional Park has a beautiful area for group tenting in the North Park. These Group Campsites are ideal because they provide close proximity to the activities, pit toilets and potable drinking water station. The group tenting site includes picnic tables and one large group fire pit. Camping is included in the “Horne Lake Explorer” package or the sites can be rented individually. There is a minimum charge of $37.50 for the Group Tenting area. Please note the campground operator, RLC Enterprizes, charges a $5 Reservation Fee for all campground bookings.

A fun and “classically Canadian” accommodation for your group to call home for your stay at Horne Lake.  These Wall Tents Campsites are cozy and provide an ideal base camp with close proximity to the parks activities, pit toilets and potable drinking water station. The Wall Tent Site includes picnic tables and one large group fire pit. Wall Tent rentals are an additional cost which can be be added to the “Horne Lake Explorer” package. Minimum group size of 15 people for the Wall Tent site. Please note the campground operator, RLC Enterprizes, charges a $5 Reservation Fee for all campground bookings.

School Cave Geology Tour

(Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park)

Come and experience one of Vancouver Island’s most outstanding natural wonders. Our Cave Geology Program is designed specifically to support school curriculum. Students explore the geologic history of underground caverns, learn about crystal formations and see ancient fossils. This unique program combines an excellent learning environment with fun-filled adventure. What they learn in a cave they won’t soon forget!

Rock Rappelling Experience

(Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park)

Bring your students to a new classroom of natural rock. Our most popular adventure program is designed to provide basic experience “on-rope” in a fun and supportive environment. Aside from the sheer thrill, students get valuable life-skill development from challenging themselves, trying something that seems impossible, feeling success and confidence by not giving up, and strategies to manage fear and trust.  Exciting and powerful!

  • Minimum age is 7 years old
  • The Rock Wall is located within a 1km hike of our Visitor Centre
  • All participants are instructed in rock and rope safety and fitted with UIAA approved helmets, harnesses and rappelling gear.
  • While on the rock, participants are secured by a safety line at all times.

Team Building Challenges

(Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park)

What can you learn from group challenges? This session will run through a series of games starting with introductory ice-breakers that will assist everyone in working together. Then groups are presented with challenges that require “creative solutions”. Along the way, students learn a lot about themselves and communicating with others. A great way to get everyone “in the zone”.

Canoe & Water Safety

(Horne Lake Regional Park)

The Canoe / Water Safety program is designed to introduce students to basic canoe handling and pre-trip planning to increase their confidence and safety on the water. Paddle strokes, proper entry /exit, emergency procedures and the importance of wearing P.F.D.’s (Personal Flotation Devices) and appropriate clothing will be taught while paddling the crystal-clear waters of Horne Lake.

Wilderness Skills

(Horne Lake Regional Park)

This fun and informative program will teach the essentials of outdoor survival skills. Along the Wilderness Trail we build (and climb into) debris shelters, identify local trees and edible plants, teach basic fire lighting techniques as well as “lost proofing” and wilderness navigation. Useful stuff!

Horne Lake Amazing Race Activity

(Horne Lake Regional Park)

Fun and excitement await on the Horne Lake Amazing Race, an adventure similar to the popular TV show but delivered in a beautiful park setting. Participants race in small groups while experiencing some healthy competition from other teams. Working together, teams try to problem-solve  a variety of outdoor challenges, navigate trails, find secret clue boxes and more. But this race will not necessarily be won by the first team to finish . . .  there is more than one way to win so check it out!

Full Meal Options

The Full Meal Program is designed to provide three meals a day to camp participants. The food service is provided by a local catering company that is famous for their wholesome and nutritious meals. This program is full service and includes all plates, utensils, glasses and tables. Students are expected to assist with clean-up.

The following is a list of typical menu items that are served at the camp. The caterer reserves the right to group the meal combinations according to their scheduling demands.

Breakfast – Scrambled eggs, bacon or sausages, hash browns, pancakes or french toast, fruit, juices, hot chocolate, milk, (coffee / tea for staff)

Bag Lunch – Chicken Caesar wrap or sandwich, pasta salad, fruit, dessert and juice box

Dinner – Roast chicken or lasagna or soft tacos, steamed vegetables or buttered corn, red roast potatoes, tossed or Caesar salads, beverages, dessert

* NOTE:

  • Special dietary requirements can be accommodated but must be communicated in advance
  • Costs are based per person, per day in accordance with the size of the group. This per day price is based on all 3 meals served on the same day
  • For groups smaller than 16 persons, a minimum of $600 per day will be charged

3 DAY “HORNE LAKE EXPLORER” PACKAGE – $99.50/ person + GST
Includes Rock Rappelling, Canoeing, Wilderness Skills, Team Challenge, and Group Tenting. Optional add-on programs are instructor-led Cave Exploring,  or the Horne Lake Amazing Race. An optional Full Meal Program and wall-tents are also available as an add-on.
