Self Guided Cave Exploration
Take
a Virtual Tour! Main
Cave is open to the public for self-exploring year round and offer
adventurous visitors a chance to explore a rugged, wild cave
without a guide. Exploring this cave will involve some
moderate climbing and narrow passages so be prepared. Helmets are
highly recommended
and you must have at least two sources of light, unless you
like getting stranded in ultimate blackness while waiting for
a rescue. This cave has many unmarked hazards and requires
caution while travelling. Be wise - know your limit and stay
within it! For those new to caving, a more enjoyable and
educational caving experience might be a guided
tour of Riverbend Cave. Helmet /
Light rentals available at the
park office for $8 per helmet / light. HOT
TIP: Waterproof maps are also available for $1.00. Do
yourself a favour - get one! NOTICE:
By order of BC Parks, access to Lower Cave is only
available under dry weather conditions due to public safety concerns. The surface trail
along the bluffs is showing evidence of geological
instability and there is risk of a trail collapse, resulting
in a 10 metre drop into the Big Qualicum River. Do not venture
past closures or boundaries unless accompanied by a park
guide.
